"Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? And when she hath found [it], she calleth her friends and her neighbour's together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost. Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth." Luke 15:8
In the Gospel of Luke's, chapter 15, Jesus uses an illustration of a woman that loses a "Silver coins" or drachma (One drachma was equivalent to one denarius, the standard pay for a day's labor) which was a Greek coin roughly equivalent in value to the Roman denarius. The woman's reasoning behind "Lighting a candle" was that a typical one-room house had no windows, so the candle provided the necessary light needed to search for the coin. We see almost the same story here as in the lost sheep parable, Luke 15:3-5. Silver is symbolic of redemption. This parable speaks of something this woman had and lost. and it is my belief that, the parable has much to do about losing our relationship and standing with God. Perhaps the woman has backslidden in some area, however she is overjoyed when she finds this coin. I believe this indicates that she finds her first love, Rev2:4, which is God and is restored. We see here the joy of the heavenly angels demonstrates by their rejoicing in heaven when someone repents and comes back to God. Another way of looking at this is the woman being viewed as the church and when a backslidden member comes back, she (the church), rejoices. We see here, that just one soul is very important to God. Just One! The main point in this verse is the joy of God and the celebrations that fill heaven when a sinner repents. Just One! Please tell someone about the goodness of God and how he displayed His love towards us by sending Jesus Christ, our Saviour to die in our stead. "Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins" James 5:19-20 JUST ONE!
